Special Religious Education

Special religious Education is offered at Bonnells Bay Public School as per the policy of the Department of Education. This is found on   https://education.nsw.gov.au/policy-library/policies/religious-education-policy?refid=285776

This policy states that every parent has the right for their child to receive instruction in their preferred religious persuasion, where authorised teachers of that persuasion are available.

The program offered is non-denominational Christian Scripture.

The school implements the processes according to the Religious Education Implementation procedures which you can find at  https://education.nsw.gov.au/policy-library/associated-documents/REimplementproced.pdf

Classes occur for students K-6 and take place each Friday morning. There is a teacher from Bonnells Bay PS present in the room during all lessons. Those who have nominated a religion on their enrolment forms and have not opted out of the SRE program remain with the SRE teacher for instruction.

Students who have opted out of scripture, either on their enrolment form or via a letter requested withdrawal from SRE, will not be in the same room during SRE. They will be supervised with alternative activities, however no curriculum instruction will be provided at this time.

Southlakes Christian Education authorise the delivery of SRE at Bonnells Bay PS. Their website is http://www.southlakescripture.net.au/

The following churches are our authorised SRE providers:

The Baptist Union of NSW

Seventh Day Adventist Church North NSW Conference

Australian Christian Churches

The Lakes Evangelical Church, Berkley Vale

Condell Park Bible Chuch

Anglican Diocese of Newcastle

Each volunteer SRE teacher has SRE Accreditation Training and has met relevant requirements under the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 and the Child Protection (Working with Children) Regulation 2013.
